• I don't have any of these ******* social network pages such as facebook/twitter/myspace ... how can I succeed in step 1?

Step 1 is just to spread the word about the contest. If you don't know how to share the messages just enter step 2.

• This step 2 is really hard ... I don't think I will enter the contest but it's a good idea.

What?? The idea of the contest is to gain at least one fan. If you can just make a cool article on your blog or just talk about Dan to a friend (you can then send a reference letter from your friend(s) ). You don't necessarily have to do something big!
