Crimson Guard (2001)

Crimson Guard first pressing

Side A:
1. Walk Among the Cobras
2. Right Inside My Pocket
3. Telegram Sam
4. Box Cutter in My Boot
5. Up the Wall

Side B:
1. So Blue (I'm Black)
2. Besame Mucho
3. Strength in Numbers
4. Steal That Girl Away
5. Half Full
6. A Place to Call My Home

Crimson Guard is the first Dan Sartain LP and was only released on vinyl. The story of the various pressings of this LP is still not totally clear to me but here's the informations I could gather.

First pressing : 100 black vinyl copies (2001)

The first pressing of this LP was self-released by Dan Sartain in 2001. The LP came in a “Dan Sartain – Crimson Guard” rubber stamped red die-cut jacket (see pic above).

It comes with two inserts in this LP. First insert have a 3D-printed "Cobra" image (3D-glasses were included in the LP to view it) on one side and the tracklist on the other side. The second insert contains the recording credits.

It seems like the LP also comes with 3D glasses but they were not in the (used) copy I have so they might only be inserted in the second pressing (or missing in my copy). If you have information about it, please share.

Second pressing : 100 red vinyl copies (2002)

This second pressing seems to be similar to the first one but on red vinyl and released with the help of Rhino records.

Tim copy of first or second pressing

Third pressing : 200 vinyl copies on Cass records (2012)

In 2012, on Dan Sartain demand, Ben Blackwell used the original stampers to make a last pressing of this record on his label, 200 copies on black vinyl in a rubber stamped cover.

Because of a pressing plant error, 30 copies were pressed on translucent red vinyl and most of them were sold during the Dan Sartain 2012 European tour.

Last pictures, the test pressing made for this third repress.

If you have any other information, please share. All the pictures presented here come from my personnal collection (unless stated otherwise). If you have a second pressing copy (or a first pressing including 3D glasses), I'm very interrested!

Thanks to Ben for some information.

TMR Bohemian Grove set

This 7 is quite special for me as it’s the one that made me discover Dan Sartain universe. Without this record I would never have spent hours on internet looking for information about the other records Dan released before. Without that 7 I would never had the idea to gather all the information I found and create this blog.

This is why I’m so $ù*$* happy to finally have all the limited editions of this 7, 18 months after its release. And I have to say a BIG thank you to Luke, Kamen and Jason for this. Because they sold me these records for face value (more or less) I’m able to own them (no way I could afford the 500 $ this set can be sold on ebay)…

Until now, this blog was just a gathering of useful information about Dan Sartain universe. Starting today, maybe because I’m more confident in my English skills, I will sometimes give my point of view. And I invite you to to do the same. Don’t hesitate to send me live reports, pictures & videos of shows, fan art (I know some of you already did).

Here are some pictures:

This is the promo CD that was released in London during two days: 4th and 7th April. It comes in an handpainted/stamped and signed enveloppe and with a really funny promotional letter about how the album was created. Both the enveloppe and the letter are embossed with the OneLittleIndian seal. Enjoy!

All the singles and some LPs were oversized. The single 7"s (Dan one on the right) were pressed on 8" size (Dan one on the left), and the 12" LPs on 13". The singles didn't have big center holes but small ones. The inner sleeve of the records was stamped with the Texas TMR logo.

Mispressing

When I put this On The Dancefloor 7" by LEVY on my turntable ...

... I'm hearing Walk Among The Cobras ptI by Dan Sartain !!!

Want to know why?

The One Little Indian catalog number of the Walk Among the Cobras ptI 7" is 724tp7 when the Dancefloor 7" by LEVY one is 725tp7. When they pressed the first ENVY records they forget to change the matrix so the first 8-10 (the right number is not known) 7"s were pressed with the Dan Sartain matrix.

The result is a Walk Among the Cobras 7" pressed on grey wax with an alternative cover. The funniest thing is that they scratched the reference number on the vinyl, changing the 724tp7 to 725tp7 ... even if the music is still from Dan Sartain and not Envy.

Thanks to Sandra, Dave and Panos for making that sweet gift to me!
Thanks to Sean for the informations.
