Every fan's dream

For the first time, I saw Dan playing live. And I saw him twice in two days. We are the day after, and I will try to make a little live report.

Day 1: Toulouse

First gig was in Toulouse. When they discovered that Dan will make an european tour with the Two Tears, two french fans that wanted to see Dan play decided to organize an a show in their city, Toulouse. As Obits was playing in the same city the same night, they finally merged the two events for a wonderful Two Tears / Dan Sartain / Obits show.

Organizers told me that soundcheck will be around 5pm. I was really surprized how easilly I came in the place (The Dynamo, a really cool concert place). Nobody asked me who I was and just said hello. I will later realize that the guy that first shook my hand was the Obits guitar player ...

Dan came twenty minutes later, greeted be like an old friend (I never saw him before that moment) and introduced me to the Two Tears members.

Then soundchecking began... First time I'm seeing Dan play... BLAST

After soundcheck, we went for a walk in Toulouse. Dan wanted to do two things:

• Find a Tatoo shop to get a tear tatoo. He killed a cop recently and want everybody to be aware about that. Sadly, the tatoo shop was closed ...
• Check if Virgin get some of his records and yes, they had!

Now, time for the show. The Two Tears were really awesome (working on a blog about them too ...) and after 25 minutes, Dan came in.

First part of the show was Dan solo, just with his Hofner guitar. And it was just fantastic. A lot of people were here to see him and the crowd was fantastic. Dan himself couldn't believe it as the crowd improvised choirs on some of the songs!!

After more than half an hour, Dan asked the Two Tears rythm section to join him. Time for PUNK. People that attended to recent Dan shows were maybe surprised by these songs, with Fuck Fridays beeing the only one released yet. These songs are new material is working on and they are great live!

After the show, we discussed a little bit backstage. There were a lot of people backstage and I had to left quickly but it was just great.

Day 2: Saint-Jean de Védas

First thing to know is that the concert place (Secret Place) was near a big city (Montpellier) but in the middle of nowhere... This is a good thing (you can play LOUD and late) but also a bad thing... It was not easy to come so there was only 25 people in the audience. FOr the Two Tears and the Dan's punk sound, the sound was great, but the Dan's solo show didn't have the special thing that the Toulouse show had.

But as a fan, it was the best day of this little trip, spending more than one hour backstage with Dan and the Two Tears, talking about everything as Dan was repairing his guitar. Priceless ...

Dan and the Two Tears were as kind as you could dream. A last proof? I made Dan sign 12 7"s and one CD for friends all around the world... Yeah, he did it ...
